Adoption Surprise

About one week before the birth of our beautiful adopted baby boy, we found out an ultrasound had shown the remote possibility of a cleft. With this theory literally being entertained by a shadow on a sonogram, my husband and I began looking into what this could mean. Of course the internet is littered with thousands of images of all different variations of cleft ranging from extremely mild to extremely extreme. Our thought process led us all over based on our internet research. We were left thinking, "If it is extreme, it would have been spotted before the ninth month." Which left us thinking if there was a problem, as this is all in question by the physician, it is most likely to be a mild cleft lip also known as a hair lip. It never occurred to us it could even include the palate. Our niece was born with a hair lip and she is one of the most beautiful little girls I have ever had seen. You would never have even known she was born different. Hair lip, we can handle. What we were about to discover was more than we ever thought we would have to go experience with an infant.
